Every Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver Version box comes with a Pokéwalker.

The Pokéwalker is a small, Pokéball-shaped device that allows you to wiressly transfer Pokémon from your PC in HeartGold/SoulSilver Version to the Pokéwalker. Once you have transferred a Pokémon, you can put the Pokéwalker in your pocket, attach it to your belt, (etc.) and take the Pokémon inside it for a walk.

When you walk with the Pokéwalker, it records the number of steps that you take and you can collect energy in watts (w) that you can use to access certain features on the Pokéwalker's menu. The number of watts is determined by how many steps you take. Also, the more steps you take, the more experience your Pokémon gains. By using your Pokéwalker, it is possible to level up Pokémon. The Pokémon you take for a walk will also gradually grow more friendly towards you.

It is also possible to obtain gifts and capture Pokémon on the Pokéwalker. You can then return these gifts and Pokémon to your game card, or give them to a friend via wireless connection of two Pokéwalkers.

That's a basic explaination of the Pokéwalker.

No, I didn't get this information from Wikipedia. I saw a couple of small videos on the Nintendo Channel on my Wii that told about the Pokéwalker. I also used my Pokéwalker already, so that's how I got my information.
